The workshop on “Ensuring Growth of SMEs and Local Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh: Issues in Regulatory Mechanism” was held at Bangladesh Enterprise Institute on 12th December 2012 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The event was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) and The Asia Foundation (TAF) under the Program on Promoting Democratic Institutions and Practices (PRODIP) program which is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and UKaid, and implemented by TAF. The objective of the workshop was to identify the barriers to growth of SMEs and local entrepreneurs in Bangladesh and generate a set of recommendations that would help Member of Parliaments and the policy makers in effectively facilitating growth of the private sector as a whole. The event was chaired by Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Honourable Member of Parliament, Bangladesh and moderated by Ambassador Farooq Sobhan, President, BEI. Mr. A.B.M. Khorshed Alam, Managing Director (In Charge), SME Foundation, Ms Sangita Ahmed, President, BWCCI, and Mr. Syed Ershad Ahmed, President, Foreign Investors Chamber were also present at the program.
