BEI signs a contract with the Australian High Commission Dhaka

Description :

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) received funding from the Australian High Commission under its Direct Aid Program (DAP) 2005-06. The funding will be used to develop a National Code of Corporate Social Responsibility to be adopted by the garment factories in Bangladesh.

The proposed project envisages a five-month long programme for framing the recommendations for the code, gradual implementation of which will help establish the rights of women garment workers in Bangladesh through the adoption of a CSR Code by members of BGMEA.

The programme will follow a three-stage approach through survey, seminar and the presentation of the code at a national conference to be attended by all the stakeholders.

The project will be carried out with inputs from survey, research, interaction with the main stakeholders and various other sources .including relevant government agencies and BGMEA.

H.E. Foskett, said “Australia is pleased to be able to assist in safeguarding the rights of those working in garment industry
in Bangladesh. It is essential that the manufacturers themselves take heed of the workplace standards required by garment buyers
in  their major markets”.
