The roundtable is a part of the dialogue series on CSR in Action that BEI organizes every month to hear the perspectives of key stakeholders and raise awareness on CSR practices and implementation challenges in Bangladesh. Brief presentations will be made highlighting specific code of conduct that is practiced at some of the participating organizations and the challenges they face in implementing the code in Bangladesh.
At the 10th Roundtable Presentations were made by:
Ms. Samantha Morshed, Director, Hathay Bunano Bangladesh, and Ms. Arifa S. Sharmin, Coordinator-External Relations, CARE-Bangladesh.
In her presentation Ms. Samantha Morshed emphasized the need for value maximisation for all the stakeholders of the business organizations to establish the culture of corporate social responsibility. Hathay Bunano Bangladesh is a fair trade organization which works to promote economically disadvantaged groups.
Ms. Arifa Sharmin highlighted in her presentation the work CARE has been doing in the RMG sector in association with Timberland and YoundOne in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ). CARE’s initiative in the CEPZ emphasizes social responsibility by raising awareness on social issues, and providing access to micro-savings and micro-credit institutions to the garment workers.
