Description :

As a proponent and champion of corporate social responsibility (CSR), the CSR Centre at the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between leading business schools of five private universities and KATALYST.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday December 26, 2006 at the BEI Conference Room. Representatives from the business schools, private sector, business chambers and associations, civil society, NGOs and media were present at the signing ceremony.

The MoU signatories will work in the coming months to introduce CSR education in their schools to ensure the process of greater CSR adoption in Bangladesh. The five business schools are North South University (NSU), Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), East West University (EWU), American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) and BRAC University (BU).

BEI will facilitate the fulfillment of the objective of the MoU, which is to promote CSR through tertiary level education in the business schools by developing new CSR courses or by redesigning existing courses to ensure a better understanding of CSR concepts and practices among the students.

CSR consciousness is vital for business school students of today who will take the helm of top management positions of the corporate sector tomorrow. As such, business schools can play a pivotal role in promoting CSR education in the country.

The MOU intends to bring together NSU, IUB, EWU, AIUB and BU to advance the agenda of incorporating CSR in the tertiary programme curricula through synergy and cooperation, and to encourage other business schools to follow.
