Roundtable Discussion on NGO Governance

The Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) organized a roundtable discussion on NGO Governance it its Conference Room on Saturday December 8, 2007. BEI organized the roundtable discussion jointly with the Federation of NGOs in Bangladesh (FNB) – Dhaka District.
Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim, Chair, FNB, inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest. Mr. Fakhrul Ferdous, Chair, FNB – Dhaka District, moderated the discussion.
The roundtable discussion was organized with the objective of discussing legal and financial issues that are pertinent for/to NGOs. Mr. Ashraful Hadi, Barrister, Dr. Kamal Hossain & Associates, led the discussion on legal issues. Mr. Zahidul Islam, Deputy Manager, Finance & Admin, Nagorik Uddyog, led the discussion on financial issues.
While inaugurating the event Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim said that the NGO sector has been developed by inspired individuals who already practice some degree of good governance in their organizations. However, there is a need to gain additional technical knowledge regarding good governance practices.
He also said that FNB was formed with the objective of working as a coordinating body and not as another NGO. He said that FNB acts proactively to provide support to their member organizations to build capacity in various technical issues.
Presidents, Executive Directors and senior management of about twenty-five member organizations of FNB – Dhaka District participated in the roundtable discussion. Ms. Lopa Rahman, Project Director; Ms. Sherina Tabassum, Project Director; Mr. Asif Ayub, Research Associate; and Mr. Rashedur Rahman, Research Associate from BEI were also present at the roundtable discussion.
