Roundtable Discussion on SEC Guidelines on Corporate Governance at BEI
As a part of the Corporate Governance Strengthening Project, BEI organized a Roundtable Discussion on SEC Guidelines on Corporate Governance for Listed Companies. The discussion was held in the BEI Conference Room on Thursday, February 16, 2006 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission was the chief guest for the occasion.
Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, Managing Director, Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and former Governor, Bangladesh Bank was also present on the occasion as Special Guest.
The Roundtable was chaired by Mr. Farooq Sobhan, President, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute.
BEI launched a code of corporate governance in April 2004 when it was officially handed over to Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Commission.
On January 09, 2006 the SEC issued its own guidelines on corporate governance on a “comply or explain” basis for the companies listed in both Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange.
With a view to take the guidelines forward and to discuss with key stakeholders how the guidelines can be implemented in Bangladesh, BEI is organizing this roundtable discussion.
The roundtable will provide an opportunity to discuss key issues on the guidelines which can have a significant impact on the practices of corporate governance in Bangladesh.
