A workshop on Private Sector Development: Partnerships for the Future will be held on from 9am to 1pm on Monday April 16, 2007 at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
The Honourable Adviser, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Dr. Mirza Azizul Islam, and the Honourable Adviser, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Tapan Chowdhury, will be present at the workshop as Chief Guests.
A group of donors and development partners recently joined forces to map the various contributions of donors and to identify the gaps and potential areas for future support. Subsequently, the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) undertook a mapping exercise and has produced a report on the findings. The mapping exercise was carried out Mr. Iftekar Ahmed, Project Director, BEI and Mr. Shihab Ansari Azhar, a former Senior Research Associate of BEI.
The findings of the exercises and the report will be presented at the workshop. Particxipants at the workshop has been drawn from the Government, private sector and civil society to discuss current issues and the roles that all stakeholders should play to further unlock Bangladesh’s potential. The discussions will be carried out in breakout sessions, facilitated as follows:
- Business Enabling Environment IFC and DFID
- Corporate Social Responsibility GTZ and BEI
- Trade EC and UNDP
- Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises ADB and JICA
- Finance IFC-SEDF and Netherlands
The event is expected to be attended by various experts, policy makers, senior government officials, CEOs, managing directors and other business leaders, eminent members of civil society and academia and private sector development experts from donors and other international agencies.
