A Roundtable Discussion on the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Principles

Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) in partnership with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Centre organized a Roundtable Discussion on the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Principles on December 22, 2010 from 09.30 A.M. to 1.30 P.M. at the BEI Conference Room (House 3A, Road 50, Gulshan 2, Dhaka 1212, Bangladesh).

The discussion focused on two important UNGC principles such as Environment and Anti-Corruption, session one will focus on Environmental issues and session two will focus on Anti-Corruption issues. The objective of the event is to create a greater sense of awareness of environmental degradations and the negative impacts of corruption particularly to the ones related to CSR among the UN Global Compact signatories. The roundtable was participated by the representatives of the UNGC Local Network signatories of Bangladesh besides the speakers.

Mr. Farooq Sobhan, President, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute and Chairman, CSR Centre chaired the both the sessions.

Dr. Muhammad Nasir Uddin , Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Bangladesh, Dr. Ainun Nishat, Vice Chancellor, BRAC University and Dr. A. Atiq Rahman, Executive Director, Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) attended the Roundtable on Environment as guest speakers.H. E. Mr. Svend Olling, Ambassador, Royal Danish Embassy, Dhaka had kindly consented to be the chief guest at the Roundtable on Environment

Mr. Iftekharuzzaman , Executive Director,  Transparency International Bangladesh was present at the Roundtable on Anti-Corruption as keynote speaker. Ms. Shaheen Anam, Executive Director, Manusher Jonno Foundation and Mr. Ahmed Ataul Hakeem FCMA, Comptroller and Auditor General, Government of Bangladesh attended the discussion as special guests. Mr. Muhammad Zamir, Chief Information Commissioner, Information Commission, Bangladesh had kindly consented to be the chief guest at the Roundtable on Anti-Corruption.
