A seminar on Sharing the Findings of Study on the Local Government Accountability and Audit Systems

seminar on “Sharing the Findings of Study on the Local Government Accountability and Audit Systems” was successfully organized by the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) in collaboration with the Strengthening Democratic Local Governance (SDLG) on Tuesday, 26th February 2013, at BIISS Auditorium, Dhaka. A total 61 participants including government officials from Local Government Division and OCAG attended the seminar. BEI conducted a study on Local Government Accountability and Audit Systems. This study examined the effectiveness of accountability and audit systems of three tiers of local governments (LG) in Bangladesh, namely Union Parishad (UP), Upazila Parishad (UzP) and Pourashava; especially in regard to financial management. The study covered 14 UPs, 7 UzPs and 7 Pourashavas in all 7 Divisions of Bangladesh. So BEI organized the seminar to the findings and recommendations of the research study with the Ministry, OC&AG and other stakeholders. M Humayun Kabir, Vice President, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute presented the keynote paper on the findings of the study. Mr. Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Information, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present at the conference as the Chief Guest. Mr. Abu Alam Md. Shahid Khan, Secretary, Local Government Division, Ministry of local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives and Mr. Md. Motahar Hussain, Controller General, Defense Finance were present as Special Guests. Mr. Farooq Sobhan, President, BEI chaired the seminar.
