A workshop on “Ensuring Private Sector Development and SME Growth in Bangladesh: Experiences of Rajshahi Division” was organized by Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) under the Program on Promoting Democratic Institutions and Practices (PRODIP) supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and UKaid, and implemented by The Asia Foundation (TAF). The workshop was held at the Conference Room of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chamber Bhaban, Station Road, Rajshahi-6100, Bangladesh) on 3rd October 2013 from 10:00 am to 1:00pm.
The objective of the workshop was to identify the barriers to growth of the private sector, SMEs and local entrepreneurs in Bangladesh through sharing the experiences of Rajshahi Division. This workshop also aimed to generate a set of recommendations that would help the Member of Parliaments and the policy makers in effectively facilitating growth of the private sector as a whole. This workshop, in turn, aimed to contribute in moderating advocacy works for bringing necessary changes and reforms in the legislative and regulatory frameworks.
This workshop brought together Members of Parliament, policy makers, SMEs representatives, the private sector, civil society and media. Md. Shahriar Alam MP, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, The People’s Republic of Bangladesh attended the workshop as the chief guest.
