Overview

As part of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), IRADe, and SARI/EI program activities, BEI and the SARI/EI Think Tank Forum aims to promote South Asian Cross Border Energy Trade (CBET) and address the energy security challenges of the region, through a robust network of think tanks, research, and advocacy platforms. Youth outreach and promoting of research on the various aspects of CBET are key focus areas of BEI. BEI, as a part of this program, intends to provide two research scholarships for select young students and researchers to conduct research/work on energy-related subjects.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To promote research and awareness in the frontline role played by cross border energy trade in the nation’s energy security and sustainable socio-economic development
  2. To create awareness and interest in the country’s youth on the areas related to renewable energy, energy security, clean energy access, sustainable development, the role of energy access in livelihoods/gender, climate change
  3. Creating a larger understanding in the grass root levels on how CBET has a positive impact on the broader socio-economic parameters of the nation


Eligibility Criteria:

  1. For Students: At least at the pre-graduation level in the areas of energy/clean energy/sustainable development/power trade/ economics/ international relations/development studies/public administration
  2. For Young Researchers: Post-Graduation, PhD, Post-Doctoral in the areas of energy/clean energy/sustainable development/power trade/ economics/ international relations/development studies/public administration
  3. Citizen of Bangladesh
  4. For Students: The applicant should have a minimum GPA of 3.5, A grade in research methodology, and a track record in research activities
  5. For Young Researchers: The applicant should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in research
  6. Experience in producing research outputs and project reports
  7. The selected researcher is expected to work by and large independently
  8. Good English verbal and written skills

Thrust Areas:

The envisaged thrust areas of the research scholarship program are:

  1. Cross border energy trade in the country and its positive impacts on the overall development, reduction in carbon emissions of the country
  2. Policy paper on Clean Energy and Renewable Technologies
  3. Socio-economic impacts of CBET including promote inclusive, sustainable development/ positive impacts on employment and on gender
  4. Research in areas related to renewable energy, energy security, clean energy access, livelihoods, gender, and climate change

Timeline:

2-3 months

Selection Procedure:

  1. Applicants are required to submit a 3-5 proposal on their respective areas of interest
  2. Applications from candidates, meeting the qualification and experience criteria given above, will be invited for an interview
  3. The applicants shall submit their interest, along with their profile, sample of work done previously in related areas, and the suggested theme and detailed outline of the research sought to be undertaken under the program, with emphasis on the potential impact of a proposed research project on a particular aspect related to CBET
  4. BEI has an evaluation committee of experts to scrutinize the applications and will get the name finalised for award of scholarship meeting the eligibility criteria
  5. BEI will issue selection letters to selected fellows by February 25, 2022
